The opening of the first ordinary parliamentary session for this year will take place on Tuesday 2 May. The National Assembly has already sent invitations to members of the government.

This is a challenging session for parliamentarians. Many topics will have to be debated for about 60 days. The most crucial question remains the budget for the presidential election which should be modified in the amending finance law for the year 2023. The initial finance law provided approximately 45 billion ariary for this election announced between the month of November and December. An amount deemed insufficient by the CENI, which is counting on a total budget of 140 billion ariary. The Prime Minister, Christian Ntsay, has already announced that the executive is ready to make efforts to increase the budget for the organization of the presidential election. Where will the money come from because according to indiscretions the state coffers are almost empty.

Tensions between MPs loyal allies of Andry Rajoelina and IRD dissidents are also likely to flare up again during this new parliamentary session. The deputies mostly from the South, elected under the banner of the IRD have in fact decided to line up behind Siteny Randrianasoloniaiko, deputy for Toliara I and future presidential candidate.

This cleavage within this majority of the presidential platform could influence the debates and the atmosphere in Tsimbazaza. Added to this are the aftermath of the aborted censure motion against the Ntsay government during the second parliamentary session.
