Suddenly, the blades of a helicopter echo behind the mountain. Thursday, April 27, the jerky noise of the Super-Puma which transports Emmanuel Macron covers the distant echoes of the pans, at the Château de Joux, in Haut-Doubs, at the foot of which 200 to 300 demonstrators await the President of the Republic. Coming at the call of the unions, they are held below, more than a kilometer away, by an impressive police force.

“With the high cliffs, it’s impossible for them to climb up here”, smiles a member of the security group of the Presidency of the Republic. No chance either of meeting Emmanuel Macron, who came to commemorate the 175e anniversary of the abolition of slavery in France. And pay homage to Toussaint Louverture, figure of this fight, who died in April 1803 in this fortress of Franche-Comté where Napoleon imprisoned people who, according to him, constituted a threat to public order and the security of the State.

A little before, at the end of the morning, Emmanuel Macron had made an unannounced stop at the Dole market (Jura), accompanied by a small handful of journalists, to offer himself images of lively but courteous exchanges with the inhabitants. Amused, the Head of State kept telling himself “bawled” by these passers-by who challenged him copiously on pensions, wages, food prices, the hospital, taxes, but without covering his voice more than reason.

For what ? To hear the difficulties of the French »he claimed in front of the cameras. “To have new ideas, to feel what is understood, what is not understood… And also to be able to deal with anger, but to do so in a way that is not artificially organized”he justified himself, judging “useless” travel “where everything is arranged because it’s going too well and those where nothing is arranged because it’s going too badly”.

For the official visit on Thursday, the prefect of Doubs had well arranged the reception of the head of state by assigning vans of mobile gendarmes and police officers to each bend or roundabout for several kilometers around. In the morning, he had withdrawn his decree which prohibited demonstrations and established a security perimeter around the Château de Joux, in the name of “the significance of the terrorist threat on national territory”. Slightly ahead of the hearing at the administrative court of Besançon against this hazardous decision.
