23-year-old Khushi Pandey, a resident of Lucknow, is doing a unique job of installing lights on cycles, so that cyclists can be saved from accidents.
According to a report of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, every year more than 4000 cyclists in the country lose their lives in road accidents and one of the important reasons for this is the absence of blinking lights in the bicycle.
With just one safety light, bicyclists can be easier to see in fog and darkness. But hardly any NGO is working for this easy solution of this serious problem. In such a situation, 23 years old Khushi Pandey takes special care that every bicycle plying on the road of Lucknow is fitted with safety lights.
She is running this campaign under the name Project Ujala through her organization ‘Sapno Ki Udaan Foundation’ and herself turns around at night to light a cycle without lights. Khushi has been working on this project for the last six years and till now she has installed lights on more than 1500 cycles for free.
Khushi, who had sympathy for the needy since childhood, had decided at a very young age that she had to work in the field of social service. She has been doing work like giving food and clothes to every needy person seen on the road since her school days.
But when she turned 18, she formed an organization to further her work.
Originally from a small village in Unnao, Khushi is pursuing law. He started the organization with the help of his family. However, she is also running five different projects like Project Daag for women’s menstrual hygiene, Project Annapurna for providing food to the needy, Project Chhaon for street workers in summer.
But her most important project is to install lights in cycles, which she is running on mission mode. His dream is that by this winter every bicycle in the city should have blinking lights. To run her work properly, she is also doing three jobs along with studies.
