JAKARTA – Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Arifin Tasrif emphasized that there was no extension export permit for mining companies bauxite . So that the ban on the export of raw minerals, especially bauxite, will continue to be implemented in June 2023.

This is inversely related to PT Freeport Indonesia (PTFI) and PT Amman Mineral Nusa Tenggara (AMNT), which is still allowed to export copper until May 2024.

“(Bauxite export permit) No (no permit extension), still June 2023. It’s different, it has to be distinguished. Because the progress of this copper (copper) smelter is already 61 percent at the end of this month,” he explained when met at his office , Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Jakarta, Friday (28/4/2023).

Arifin said that until now the targeted smelter construction was in fact still in the form of land or in other words there had not been any progress.

“The bauxite is still in the form of a football field, Boja field doesn’t even have grass. Up to 8 smelters like that have met with our inspection team. There has been no progress,” he said.

Therefore, he emphasized that this is what later became a consideration for the government not to grant an extension of the bauxite export permit. It’s different from copper, which gets concessions because there has been a development of a smelter being built.

“For copper, there is relaxation because there is progress in the construction of smelters and a lot has been spent. If it is more than 60 percent, the budget is already similar to what was issued,” he stated.
