The European Comission reached an agreement this Friday with Poland, Hungary, Bulgaria, Romania and Slovakia so that allow the transit of Ukrainian agricultural products, with the aim that kyiv can export them to third countries.

“I welcome the principle of agreement reached for the transit of four types of Ukrainian grain and cereal,” said the president of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, on her official Twitter account, in relation to wheat, corn, rapeseed and sunflower seeds.

Poland, Hungary, Bulgaria, Romania y Slovakia they lifted the veto on the importation of these products, as long as they do not remain in their countries, since they consider that their farmers cannot compete against the cheaper prices of these foods, exempt from tariffs since the beginning of the Russian invasion to help economically to Kiev.

The pact, which also has the approval of Ukraine, plans to develop measures to ensure compliance.

The agreement “preserves both Ukraine’s export capacity to continue feeding the world, and the livelihood of our farmers,” von der Leyen continued.

A package of 100 million euros has also been approved to help farmers in these five countries, from the Common Agricultural Policy.

Hours before this deal, EU countries had decided this Friday to extend the suspension of tariffs on agricultural products from Ukraine.
