MEXICO CITY, April 28 (EL UNIVERSAL). – The lawyers of the Minister of the Court Yasmín Esquivel Mossa assured that their client is the victim of a political campaign against him and that he has provided sufficient and irrefutable evidence that proves that his thesis to obtain a law degree is original and not plagiarism, so he will not resign his position.
“We can say forcefully and absolutely that there is not the slightest intention on the part of Minister Yasmín Esquivel to resign from her function and position as Minister. On the contrary, what Minister Yasmín Esquivel is doing is a sign of integrity and of dignity to defend her prestige and her honor in the legal field. She will fight until the last moment, for legality, for the good of UNAM and for the legal truth to come out,” said lawyer Alejandro Roman Rascon.
He also said that “they have not called the thesis director or the witnesses, nor have they wanted to present evidence. On January 12, 2023, the UNAM authorities even published with public money deployed in various media condemning Esquivel Mossa and affecting his honor”.
In a press conference, they accused that the minister is the victim of a political campaign unleashed a few days before the new president of the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation was elected on January 3.
Eduardo Andrade Sánchez pointed out that in the event that the resolution of the UNAM Ethics Committee decides that the minister did plagiarize her thesis, the minister will resort to legal tools to respond to the ruling.
“I hope that there will be an adequate reflection among the members of the Ethics Commission so that they realize the seriousness and the risk of calling into question the prestige of the UNAM,” he said.
For the lawyer, there is no doubt that Esquivel Mossa is the victim of a political campaign against him, stating that it is evident since last December “that the objective was to prevent him from reaching the presidency of the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation. And now they insist on this beating, because she, in full exercise of her jurisdictional capacity, of her independence as a judge, shares nationalist values,” the lawyer asserted.
He added that when analyzing the case, the committee could be falling into a crime of usurpation of functions.
