Renfe allocates more than one million euros to a network of Intelligent Security Centers

(28/04/2023)

The new network of centers will have the objective of exploiting the data to improve decision-making and the optimization of security resources. This investment is part of the ‘Renfe Smart Security Station’ (RS3) project, which will end in 2024.

The units, known as “i-CECON” and “i-C24H”, will be located next to the 24-hour security centers and crisis rooms that are currently available. Each one will have multimedia equipment for the exploitation, management and maintenance of the data and infrastructure of the video analytics systems of the RS3 project.

The facilities are located in Bilbao, Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia and Seville, which correspond to the North, Center, Catalonia, East and South delegations, respectively. All of them are managed by Renfe Operadora’s Security, Self-protection and Risk Prevention Department.

Smart centers will have the ability to respond independently, predictively, and effectively to incidents, alerts, and emergencies. One of its functions will be the monitoring of security alarms in real time such as crowds, falls to the track box, etc. In addition, they will also allow the recording of data in real time from the digitization of their assets.

Video surveillance

The first intelligent video surveillance equipment is already operational in more than 75 Cercanías stations in different regions. This is the first phase for the comprehensive digitization of the security systems of 483 Cercanías stations.

The technology it has the ability to anonymously and automatically collect and process thousands of data through the CCTV system of each station and integrates it into a single control panel.

The objective is to improve security and the customer experience, always in strict compliance with data protection regulations.

Currently, along with the 75 stations that have this system, another 42 have been installed and another 89 stations are in the process of implementation work, and are expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2023. Along with these progress, the work has been reconsidered in 303 more stations.

To implement these solutions, Renfe has selected companies specialized in image intelligence and analytics technologies, among which are Infinity Neural and Imotion Analytics, ‘startups’ accelerated with the operator’s TrenLab innovation program. These systems are part of the ‘Renfe Smart Security Station’ (RS3) project, which has a budget of 31.7 million euros and which has been financed with funds from the European Union, began at the end of 2021 and will end throughout of 2024.
