In Warren, Michigan, 13-year-old Dillon Reeves grabbed the wheel of his school bus during an emergency. While the actual driver sits unconscious, he presses the brake and brings the bus to a standstill. A security camera caught the incident on the school bus.

The school district immediately held a press conference to honor the boy’s “heroic deeds.” The 13-year-old acted “extraordinarily courageously and maturely”, quoted the “AP” Robert Livernois, head of the Warren Consolidated Schools. “I don’t know how it could have gone any better.”

On the video everything seems to be normal. Then the driver waves her cap at herself. She radios someone, reports that she has to pull over.

She can still slow down the bus, after which she loses consciousness. The children only notice it after a few seconds. “Oh shit,” comes the voice from behind the bus as the vehicle rolls on.

Eventually Dillon appears in the picture, determinedly hitting the brakes. And while the whole bus is screaming, the 13-year-old says the only right thing: “Someone should dial the emergency number. Immediately!”

Dillon himself did not speak at the press conference. However, his parents were proud. “We have a little hero,” said his father.

Since his son was four, he has been riding on his lap and turning into driveways. His conclusion: “He’s a good driver.”
