On April 27, in Valge Kõrvits “White Pumpkin”, which is already beloved by Narvitians, on Lavretsova 8, literary gatherings “Book Thursday” were held for the first time. Employees of the Narva Central Library, over delicious tea, talked about what books you can read to get rid of spleen, the topic of the last meeting was “Vitamins for the Soul”.
The idea to organize such a literary club came to Tatyana Krivolap, the deputy director of the library, and the co-owner of the cafe, Natalya Vovdenko, was happy to support her. “In our city, now all the cafes are actively involved in various events,” said Krivolap. – Entrepreneurial and successful women gather at Bublik kafe, intellectuals playing different games at Alex Kohvik & Catering. And I have been thinking for a long time: perhaps it is necessary to leave the walls of the library more often, because not only in the library you can talk about books and literature. Why not create something like a literary cafe?
Such meetings are planned to be organized once a month on Thursdays. Topics will vary. This time they talked about how to overcome depression and improve mood, drank tea, read books, talked about life. The librarians presented the guests with books for both adults and children, these were publications on psychology, modern prose, detective stories and humorous novels, children’s books. What book is uplifting? Kind, sincere, positive, with humor, – says Tatyana. “Today we have books of different genres and authors, but they will set you up for positive emotions and positivity.”
The idea of creating meetings was discussed last autumn, but it was only possible to implement it in the spring. As Natalya Vovdenko said, meetings of this format are suitable for cafes. “Discussions like this can be a great addition to a gastronomic culture,” she explained. – On Book Thursdays you can get first-hand recommendations on what to read, and here the book will be handed out. We are not afraid if a few guests come to the meeting, since we do this without business goals, this is more of a spiritual initiative, we want people to break away from the daily bustle.”
As Natalya said, in the summer, most likely, they will not organize such evenings, since the townspeople leave for summer cottages and vacations. Another meeting will be held in May, and then continue in the fall.
The guests liked the meeting, some left with more than one book. The next book Thursday will take place on May 25, the theme was touching and exciting: “How to raise a happy special child.”
