Empodera was launched in 2018 and during its first phase, which has already ended, it has benefited young people and women from Alta Verapaz.

In 2022, the project offered access to job placement services to 4,252 people, of whom 977 people obtained jobs, according to Saúl Díaz Ortíz, regional director of Swisscontact Latin America.

While 1,957 young people and women in the region received professional technical training and 936 started a business, 95% were women.

She added that for four years the project offered professional technical training and job placement programs, promoted sustainable entrepreneurship and financial inclusion, and sought the empowerment of women.

Results of the project 2018-2022

  • 5,635 people received professional technical training.
  • 2 thousand 30 people started a business

  • 7 thousand 28 people received training in financial education and 1 thousand 526 MiPyMes of women were strengthened.
  • Empodera offered access to job placement services to 9,188 people.

  • 2,267 people had access to salaried jobs; Of these, more than 1,300 are women, who now have an average monthly income of US$452.
  • A total of US$16,536,278 increased income from job creation and US$9,685,047 was the total increase in gross sales generated by ventures.

  • 13,924 women have increased their participation in decision-making at home, specifically regarding purchases, their reproductive health, and how to use their time.
  • Outside the home sphere, 10,277 women increased their social and political participation, being more active in decision-making spaces in their communities and municipalities.

  • 216 thousand 388 young people and indigenous women accessed information and awareness on issues of Sexual and Reproductive Health, Violence Prevention and Care Economy.
