The President of the Government celebrates the approval of the first Spanish vaccine against the coronavirus

Hipra injection received the final approval of the European Medicines Agency (EMA) on March 30. After examining in detail the results of the clinical trials of this formula, the highest European health authority has authorized the use of the Spanish vaccine as a booster dose against covid-19. This formula may be supplied to everyone over the age of 16 who has previously been vaccinated with Pfizer or Moderna. The final distribution of these injections (that is, who and when will receive the injections) will depend on the criteria established by each of the recipient countries.

The European Commission has signed a purchase contract to purchase up to 250 million doses of this drug. As they explain from Hipra, at the moment there are at least fourteen European countries interested in having the Spanish vaccine (In addition to other states in Latin America, the Middle East and Southeast Asia that are also negotiating the purchase of these injections). Spain, for its part, already has insured at least 3.2 million doses of the immunization produced in Catalonia.

Hipra’s vaccine will be marketed under the name ‘Bimervax’. According to the spokespersons of the Catalan company, the doses of this vaccine will cost between 7 and 9.75 euros per unit (a figure much lower than the 15 euros that each Pfizer puncture costs and the more than 20 that Moderna’s are worth).
