The progress of investments in construction works, the production of alternative foods to industrial feed for use in aquaculture, and the capture activity in the reservoirs, were matters evaluated by the Commander of the Rebel Army José Ramón Machado Ventura, during a tour of the UEB La Paila, located in San Cristóbal.

In the unit, the second largest fingerling station in the country, belonging to the Flota del Golfo Boat Company (Flogolfo), the Commander verified construction work in a new spawning room intended to produce fingerlings for different crops.

Accompanied by Gladys Martínez Verdecia, first secretary of the Provincial Party Committee in Artemisa; Yoan Molina, coordinator of programs in the provincial government; the main authorities of the Party and the Government in the municipality; As well as managers from the UEB and the Company, Machado Ventura verified the operation of a mixer, a hammer mill and a grinder for the manufacture of animal feed from by-products of the fishing industry, meat, sweet potato and honey.

He insisted on the importance of guaranteeing the availability of agricultural products such as sweet potatoes, cassava and cowpea beans, which can be used in the process, whether harvested by the entity or purchased from producers. “We have to cultivate and produce everything that is possible in Cuba. That is the road to self-sufficiency, food sovereignty”.

The First Secretary of the Party in Artemisa, pointed out the need to speed up the capture activity in the reservoirs: coordinate the actions between all those involved and draw up strategies to, despite the difficulties with the fishing gear, extract the planned quantities.

Martínez Verdecia also called attention to the urgency of fixing a siphon located in La Paila, whose breakage prevents the passage of water to most of the ponds that must be used in intensive cultivation.
