Now, curing the curiosity of some, two big names have been announced in the cast, one of them marking the return of an important character: Connie Nielsen will return as Lucilla.

The plot of the new production takes place 25 years after the events of the first film, which had Maximus (Russell Crowe) as the Roman general who became one of the strongest and most skilled gladiators in Rome. The sequel will focus on Lucius as an adult. In the original, the character was played by Spencer Treat Clark, his older version will be under the performance of Paul Mescal.

The new names also join Barry Keoghan and Denzel Washington. Ridley Scott also returns as the film’s director.

It is worth remembering that Maximus dies in the first film after the end of the battle with Commodus (Joaquin Phoenix), and it is not possible to continue his story in a sequel.

Gladiator is considered a blockbuster, grossing over $460 million at the worldwide box office. It was nominated for 12 Oscars, winning five, including Best Picture. The production also earned Crowe an Academy Award for Best Actor.
