In Sus (Pyrénées-Atlantiques), the day is calm this Sunday, April 30. However, cars gradually fill the main square of the village. The passengers who leave are all heading in the same direction: the large park of the property of Tabitha’s Place, this community classified as an “apocalyptic type” sect since 1995 by the interministerial mission for the fight against sectarian aberrations (Miviludes) and other anti-cult associations.

After forty years spent in this small town in Béarn, the sect announced last week its desire to “leave France”. And to justify her departure, she invited the neighborhood to an “open house” day.

The Toulouse branch also on the way out

Two men looking like cowboys are posted in front of the entrance to the property and filter the comings and goings using walkie-talkies. “Representatives” of the community who do not want to respond to our requests. “A matter of conscience”, they simply replied, before becoming firmer. Not everyone was invited to the event. “There are the desirable and the undesirable,” slipped one of the two mocking men to the gendarmes who came to the village, pointing to journalists who were filming nearby.

About three hours from Sus, in Toulouse (Haute-Garonne), it seems that history is repeating itself. This Sunday morning, some Toulouse residents received the same leaflets as the Sussois. Tabitha’s Place, which has a stand in the market in the Saint-Aubin district and a shop, also invited its “customers”, “friends” and “neighbours” to come and visit them at the shop and in their castle in Marquefave, south of Toulouse, for a last “friendly meeting”, but there too with handpicked guests. It seems that the exile of the Tabitha’s Place sect has become more of a reality than ever.
