The first time I posed for a live model workshop I was 21 years old and I said to myself: what am I Do it ? I had wanted to try for several years, it was a friend, who had been posing for more than ten years, who convinced me to take the plunge. She knew I would like it. But I was a bit scared to go for it because I thought the models were only tall, thin women. Although I am small and fat.

My first time was therefore in 2020, in Gentilly (Val-de-Marne), in the Parisian suburbs, in the workshop of a very nice couple. There were sculptures and drawings all over the room. Light entered through a smoked bay window. I changed in a space reserved for the model, behind a curtain. Then I sat down in the middle of the room, on a small platform covered with a white sheet. The students sat in a circle around me and I started posing.

The participants were all very different: a frail lady with a strong accent who wore colorful clothes, a man with a leather jacket and tattoos all over his body, a very shy young woman who didn’t want to show her drawings… A At the end of the class, the workshop organizers told me that my poses were too similar. I had remained standing throughout the session, whereas the model usually lies down, sits down or leans on an object. To inspire me, they gave me a notebook with examples of poses.

At the time, I was a little ashamed. But the students knew that I was a beginner and it was not a problem for them. I felt that I had the right to learn and not know everything as soon as I arrived, that I was going to take the time. When I left class, I was very happy, I called my friend and told her: “I want to do this all my life! »

Bathrobe, pair of flip flops and bottle of water

Over the months, I built up an address book. The rooms in which I pose are all very different: this is also what makes the charm of the live model. In a deconsecrated church, at the Beaux-Arts in Paris, in a pale basement, in private homes… There really aren’t any rules. The only constant: the model stands on a small platform. I usually arrive five to ten minutes before class, to have time to change. In my bag, three essentials: a bathrobe, a pair of flip-flops and a bottle of water. Once undressed, I wait for the students in bathrobes in the drawing room.
