► Revaluation of the minimum wage

To cope with inflation, the minimum wage will be increased to €11.52 gross per hour, or €1,747.20 gross per month in 35 hours, compared to €1,709.28 previously. It is revalued by 2.22% following the publication of the latest inflation figures by INSEE on April 14, 2023.

From now on, the minimum wage amounts to €1,383.08 net, ie a monthly increase of €30 net.

► Civil service: raising the minimum salary

Some civil servants are also affected by a salary increase. Those under the minimum salary scheme, the equivalent of the minimum wage for the public service, will be able to see an increase of €20 net per month on their payslip.

A decree published in Official newspaper Thursday, April 27 changes the salary of a civil servant from €1,712.06 to €1,750.86.

► Rise in the price of tobacco

In accordance with the will of the government, certain packets of cigarettes will cost more from May 1. In September 2022, the Prime Minister announced the objective that all packages cost at least €11 for the year 2024.

Elisabeth Borne had explained her desire to index the price of a pack of cigarettes to inflation by increasing by 50 cents in 2023 and 35 cents in 2024.

► The increase in social benefits visible

Social benefits had been modified in April. But because they are paid at the end of the month, it is in May that recipients of the RSA and family allowances will see their benefits increase by 1.6%. A single person without children will thus receive €607.75 per month compared to €598.54 until now.

Family allowances will be between €35.50 and €141.99 per month for couples with two children. Other aid such as the allowance for disabled adults (AAH), the education allowance for disabled children (AEEH) and the back-to-school allowance (ARS) are also affected by this increase.

The activity bonus, a supplement for low-income workers over the age of 18, should reach €595.25 for a single person this month, compared to €586.23.

► Evolution of wear rates

Recalculated every month, the wear rate is revised upwards in May. The objective is to allow borrowers to have access to credit while mortgage rates are rising more and more.

This maximum rate beyond which a bank can no longer lend will be set at 4.52% for home loans with a duration of twenty years (compared to 4.24% previously) and 4.33% for loans between ten and twenty years.

► Last weeks to declare your income

Opened on April 13, the online tax declaration service will close on June 8. But some must finalize their tax return by the end of May. Taxpayers making it on paper have until May 22 to send their income to the tax authorities.

For those who prefer the declaration on the Internet, residents in departments numbered from 1 to 19 and residents abroad have until May 25, at midnight. The deadline is Thursday, June 1 for departments from 20 to 54. Finally, on June 8, departments from 55 to 976 are affected by the end of the tax declaration.

► Last month to claim the wood check

The deadline for exceptional government aid to deal with energy prices has been extended from April 30 to May 31. For homes that use this energy, the wood check set up by the government can be requested from the portal for exceptional energy checks and can be used with a wood seller as well as other suppliers for any energy bill.

It comes in addition to the general energy check paid to the most precarious households and concerns 2.6 million households. The amount of aid is between €50 and €200 depending on income and type of fuel.
