Hyundai Elantra N Wagon: More than a Facelift

There is one new car in Hyundai N’s portfolio, and that is the refurbished Elantra N that was shown earlier this month in Shanghai, People’s Republic. For now it is in the local specification, but it gives a glimpse of the model that will cross the ocean later this year to reach the New World.

Showcasing a more modern look, the updated Elantra N is better looking than the outgoing iteration. It has a new grille with a full-width lightbar above it, a larger central air intake and new side vents in the bumper. The headlights are thinner and there’s a new bumper and diffuser combination at the far end. Elantra and N logos grace the trunk lid, which still has a large wing on top. Elsewhere it’s the same red finish on the lower body sections, albeit with new styling.

Another novelty is the set of wheels, which resembles something manufactured by Alfa Romeo. We wouldn’t complain about the design as it fits the style of the car. It would help if you didn’t ask about the engine because the Korean car brand hasn’t detailed it yet. But it’s likely to be the same engine that powers the current Elantra N. The turbo-four, with a displacement of 2.0 liters, is good for 276 hp (280 ps/206 kW) and produces 289 lb-ft (392 Nm). ) of torque. Everything is channeled to the front wheels via either a six-speed manual transmission or an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic. The two-pedal version of the compact sports model is half a second faster than the manual transmission, taking 5.3 seconds to reach 100 km/h. Both reach 250 km/h.

Hyundai is offering the Elantra N in a unique body style, a four-door sedan. The model, known as the Avante in its home market or the i30 Sedan Down Under, was designed by the company’s design guru Luc Donckerwolke, who has some famous vehicles under his belt, such as the Lamborghini Gallardo and Murcielago, Audi R8 and Bentley Flying Espora.

In theory, Hyundai could develop a second bodystyle version of the latest Elantra, but since compact wagons aren’t popular anymore, they won’t release one. But a five-door variant of the Elantra N has recently graced the digital world, with the signature jlord8. Strangely, it is not based on the facelift as it was based on the previous iteration. But even so, it’s an exciting proposition that would make a welcome addition to the average family for everyday use.
