The trip was being prepared by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs since the beginning of April. The boarding date has not yet been closed, which should take place between Thursday (4) and Friday (5).

Charles 3rd succeeded Queen Elizabeth 2nd upon her death in September 2022. The coronation acts are expected to last about three days. In addition to the traditional parade, the ceremony will feature a night show and a “national meal”, among other initiatives.

During the trip, Lula should meet with the British prime minister, Rishi Sunak. The politician replaced Liz Truss at the end of last year, when she resigned after only 45 days in office.

Death of Elizabeth II

In September last year, Queen Elizabeth II died aged 96 at her castle in Balmoral, Scotland, where she was on vacation. She held the throne for over 70 years and was the longest-serving monarch in UK history.

One of Elizabeth II’s last official engagements came two days before her death, when she appointed former Prime Minister Liz Truss. She even posed for a photo with the then representative. On September 7, Brazil’s Independence Day, the monarch sent a message to Brazilians.

In early March, Lula and King Charles III spoke by telephone. “We talked about the will to deepen partnerships and discussions between our countries on the climate issue and protection of the environment”, said the Brazilian president at the time.

Brazilian products in the UK

On April 19, the Minister of Agriculture and Livestock, Carlos Fávaro, participated in a working meeting with the Secretary of Environment, Food and Rural Affairs of the United Kingdom, Thérèse Coffey, in London.

During the meeting, proposals for opening new markets for Brazilian products, especially meat, were dealt with. The government argues that the country has the potential to increase its participation as an exporter of products. Currently, the UK imports almost 50% of the food and drink it consumes.
