The most competitive tax system corresponds to the Madrid’s community (76.2 points), to the foral territories of the Basque Country (Vizcaya: 81.5 points; Álava: 82.2 points; Guipúzcoa: 84.8 points) and Canary Islands (95.2 points), according to the Institute of Economic Studies (IEE).

On his side, the worst results they are obtained in the regions of Catalonia (123.8 points), Comunidad Valenciana (116.3 points), Aragón (115.3 points), Asturias (115 points) and Extremadura (110.2 points).

According to the IEE, the regions that have greater economic well-being, measured through GDP per capita, are those that present a better performance in fiscal competitiveness.

The autonomous community that obtains the best results in terms of regional competitiveness is the Community of Madrid, with a value of the Regional Competitiveness Index (ICR) of 119.3 points. It is followed by the Basque Country, with an ICR value of 107.6 points; and Catalonia, with 101.3 points, these three regions being the only ones that exceed the European average within Spanish territory.

On the contrary, within the Spanish regions with the worst results, are Extremadura, Andalusia and the Canary Islands, with a score that does not reach 80 points, very far from the European average. As concluded in the analysis, personal income taxation, both in Madrid and Barcelona, ​​in the context of large European cities, are in the middle zone.
