Dr. Eliyahu Eliav studied at the School of Dentistry at New York University. After graduating in 1996, he worked for two decades in a private clinic in Brooklyn and gained extensive experience in the medical treatments he provided to thousands of clients. In 2016, Dr. Eliav immigrated to Israel and worked for several years in a private medical clinic Teeth in Bnei Brak. Since 2020, he has set out on his own and opened a clinic in Be’er Ya’akov, which serves the residents of the center.

Dr. Eliav believes that every dentist should continue to keep up to date with research and technological innovations in medicine, which is why he often participates in courses and trainings. His clinic in Be’er Ya’akov provides its clients with emergency dental treatments and aesthetic treatments.

What emergency care services do you provide at the clinic?

“Emergency services – as they are called – first aid treatments given in emergency situations: root canals, extractions, gingivitis, especially when it comes to a situation of pain when a tooth breaks, the gums are swollen due to inflammation or the crown is out of place,” explains Dr. Eliav .

“In cases of root canal treatment, there is a hole in the tooth that reaches up to the nerves of the tooth. As part of the root canal treatment, we remove the nerve, clean the canals of the tooth and seal the area with a special material that helps the root of the tooth heal. In root canal treatment,” explains Dr. Eliav, “we In fact, the tooth is saved from extraction, because extraction is the last stop and should be avoided as much as possible. After that, they put a structure and a crown.”

On the other hand, in gingivitis, “which is mainly due to neglect and lack of hygiene in the area of the mouth and gums, we prescribe antibiotics to the patient and mainly explain to him how he should maintain the health of the gums in the future, such as cleaning the scale twice a year, and this in order to avoid a recurrence of the phenomenon.”

What aesthetic treatments are provided at the clinic?

As part of the aesthetic treatments at Dr. Eliav’s clinic, implant treatments are performed. “Implants are required when there is no escape from extracting the teeth,” says Dr. Eliav. “We give the gums a three-month recovery period and then the implant can be made.”

In his clinic, he prefers to use a zirconia crown, which is considered an expensive but more aesthetic material and better for the gums. “After the extraction, I think the bone will be strong enough, but if it’s front teeth, a temporary implant can be made, with one tooth or several teeth. The lifespan of the implant depends very much on the maintenance of the teeth and the patient’s medical condition – whether he smokes or not, if he has diabetes or Other underlying diseases that may affect the teeth or the condition of the gums,” he says.

What are your recommendations regarding care and regular maintenance of the teeth and gums?

“Today there are various methods and techniques, but unfortunately most people have no idea how to take care of their teeth and they hold the belief that brushing their teeth twice is enough, but there is much more to do,” says Dr. Eliav and elaborates:

The brushing technique – “Not only horizontally but also rotationally, from top to bottom; brushing soft and not hard like a massage for the teeth and not brushing the teeth, because aggressive brushing causes receding gums and therefore a soft brush should be used.”

Dental floss or jet – “Quite a few people use dental floss, but I do not recommend the use of floss because it may push the bacteria further towards the gums and instead of cleaning cause more serious damage. That is why I recommend that most patients use the jet and I admit that I myself use it. With the jet, cleaning the gums is The best and the feeling is pleasant, just like a massage for the gums.”

Dr. Eliav concludes: “No matter how well you brush with a toothbrush, there are areas that the brush cannot enter, so the result is that a lot of bacteria remain on the gums and cause receding gums and gingivitis. Thus, over time, people lose their teeth. Sometimes we sadly have to pull teeth even though they are good because everything around them is inflamed as a result of not maintaining the health of the gums.”
