On the day that the Catholic Church celebrates San José Obrero, Pope Francis recalled that the saint is an example “in the midst of the storms of life.”
“Saint Joseph teaches us that, in the midst of the storms of life, we should not be afraid to give God the rudder of our boat,” the Holy Father wrote.

The feast of Saint Joseph is traditionally celebrated by the Church on March 19. However, in 1955, in the midst of the distortions of Marxist socialism about the world of work, Pope Pius XII established the celebration of San José Obrero for every May 1st.
May 1 is also commemorated in many countries, as a civil holiday, Labor Day.
Pius XII recalled May 1, 1955 that “the humble artisan of Nazareth not only embodies the dignity of the worker before God and the Holy Church, but is also always the provident guardian” of the workers.
