After 84 cases of the Omikron variant were reported on Saturday, Italy is examining whether to take additional Ant-Corona restrictions. The Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi has called a special meeting for next Thursday (December 23), at which the anti-corona measures are to be tightened, Health State Secretary Andrea Costa announced on Saturday evening.

The reintroduction of the requirement to wear a mask outdoors is being examined. Vaccinated persons could be asked to show a negative test for events in closed rooms such as discos. The compulsory vaccination could be extended to other professional groups. The Ministry of Health said 28,000 infections and 123 deaths attributable to the coronavirus were reported on Saturday.

In Italy, the corona incidence has risen significantly again. As of Thursday, the experts registered an average of 241 corona cases per 100,000 inhabitants nationwide in the past seven days, as the Supreme Health Institute announced in Rome on Friday. The previous week the seven-day incidence was 176. The occupancy in the intensive care and hospital wards also continued to rise.

Health Minister Roberto Speranza ordered the Marche, Liguria, Veneto and the Autonomous Province of Trento to fall into the so-called yellow zone from Monday. Above all, people have to be prepared for one important change: wearing masks outdoors. South Tyrol, Calabria and Friuli-Venezia Giulia are already in the yellow zone. Rome decides on the division into the different zones depending on the regional number of Corona cases and hospital occupancies with Covid 19 patients.
