The Generalitat de Catalunya continues to increase the public and affordable housing stock. The Department of Territory of the Generalitat has opened a call to buy housing blocks under construction or already finished and owned by large holders to allocate them to social rental.
The Catalan government has explained that the buildings must be located in one of the 162 municipalities in which high residential demand and a shortage of protection rent have been detected.
Dwellings must have a usable area of between 42 and 90 m2 and, in the case of finished buildings, they must have the first occupancy license, a minimum of ten floors and, the owner who makes the request, must have a minimum of 60% of the dwellings.
In buildings with work stopped or in progress there must be a minimum of 20 floors and the applicant must be the owner of at least 80% of the homes. The call is open until June 15 and the Catalan Soil Institute (Incasòl) will study the offers and will start the negotiation process in a maximum of two months.
