The president of the State Health Services Administration (ASSE), Leonardo Cipriani, has decided to lead an administrative investigation in response to the complaint of two deaths due to alleged lack of care in a unit of his agency located on the Gold Coast .

Given the seriousness of the situation, Cipriani has assured that the investigation will be concluded before the weekend and that, in the event of any irregularity being determined, the transfer of the proceedings to the ASSE Legal Division will be ordered.

The complaints were presented to the authorities by the nationalist deputy Alfonso Lereté, who on Tuesday brought two letters to the Health Commission of the Chamber of Deputies denouncing an alleged deficit in care at the Parque del Plata polyclinic for people who, Not receiving medical assistance, they died.

One of the reported cases, dated this Monday, refers to an event that occurred on January 23. That day, the affected patient went to the north polyclinic in Parque del Plata to request medical care at home, but the staff responded “in a bad manner” and told him that they would send the professional, which ultimately never happened. At noon, the patient called the ASSE ambulance service to request assistance, but according to the complaint, “they told him that a doctor would come at some point” and he did not show up either.

Finally, the patient died and, after the complaint was filed by a neighbor, the worrying situation at the Parque del Plata polyclinic was made known.

The second death at the ASSE clinic

The other case, which also ended in death, happened last year in the same place. The letter, also signed with first and last name, refers to the “avoidable death” of an 83-year-old man, and also involves the Parque del Plata health service.

According to the complaint, the old man felt bad and went to the South polyclinic, where the professionals who attended there did not care. The next day, he returned with clear symptoms of intestinal obstruction, but after several hours of waiting, his transfer to the San José Hospital was coordinated. On the way, the patient began to present symptoms of peritonitis, which ended his life.

Lereté’s decision to submit these complaints to ASSE has been supported by his colleagues in the Deputies’ Public Health Commission, and it is hoped that the investigation led by Cipriani will shed light on the serious events that occurred at the Parque del Plata polyclinic.
