Various researchers have raised concerns about the malaria outbreak in two regions (Tierralta and Puerto Libertador) of the northwest department of Crdoba and the detection of malaria cases in five cities outside the endemic areas:

Just over 30 percent of malaria cases are reported from Choc Department, while Crdoba comes second with 20.5 percent.

Malaria is a disease caused by a parasite of the genus Plasmodium and transmitted to humans mainly through the bite of a female mosquito of the genus Anopheles and since the 18 Caribbean slope and spread to other areas of the country.
