Booba no longer leads alone, or almost, his crusade against “influencers”. A portmanteau that the rapper coined to refer to influencers with deceptive marketing practices. Since the start of the year, the Repression of Fraud (DGCCRF) has been more interested in the business model of reality TV stars: it checked 50 influencers during the first quarter of 2023, i.e. as many in three months as over the year. 2022.

“A statement of offense, liable to prosecution for deceptive commercial practices, could be established for 60% of the influencers checked”, says the Directorate General for Competition, Consumer Affairs and Fraud Prevention in a press release released on Wednesday. .

“On these 50 influencer sites, we found 30 violations,” confirmed Bruno Le Maire, Minister of the Economy, on franceinfo. “All of this is completely unacceptable, there will be sanctions, there will be injunctions, there will be criminal prosecution. We are going to give the names of the influencers who have not respected the rules in the coming days, it is very dissuasive, ”reveals Bruno Le Maire. “We cannot accept that influencers are the Wild West. »

“None of these 30 influencers was transparent as to the commercial nature of their approach and the identity of the person on whose behalf they were acting, specifies the DGCCRF. These findings led to the issuance of 18 injunctions to cease illicit practices, and 16 criminal reports. »

A bill, adopted unanimously in the National Assembly, “should make it possible to regulate the sector”, recalls the minister. It aims “to fight against scams and excesses of influencers on social networks”. The bill will be presented to the Economic Affairs Committee in the Senate on Wednesday and put to the vote on May 9. In addition, a new commercial influence brigade, effective in September, will strengthen the controls of the DGCCRF.

Since the start of the controversies around influencers from reality TV, more than 80 complaints were filed in January with the Paris prosecutor’s office. An association collects new testimonies every day. The DGCCRF recalls that consumers can report any unfair practice on its platform Signalconsowhich includes a section dedicated to commercial influence.
