The university expected the effective arrival of this promised item, although it maintains that Salamanca needs an amount similar to the 45 million allocated to the Valle de la Lengua in La Rioja, according to EFE sources from the Rectorate, in line with the rector’s recurring claim , Ricardo Rivero.

These are the first funds from the Government that CIEUSAL will receive, beyond the transfer of the building that houses its headquarters in the Plaza de los Bandos, which was the old Bank of Spain.

Both the rector and the mayor of Salamanca, Carlos García Carbayo, have been asking for months to provide funds for a center that needs to be filled with content: so far it has only hosted, in April, the Chess Master and an exhibition on language in the Transition Spanish.

In a press release, the Government explained that the 2.5 million will go to the search for “new ways of teaching and learning the language with cutting-edge digital tools based on artificial intelligence and language technologies.”

In addition, business support programs “that favor private initiative and employment” will be promoted and new markets for teaching Spanish in the world will be identified.

TRAINING FOR FOREIGN TEACHERS OF SPANISH

At CIEUSAL, a pilot program will be launched with students from countries “considered strategic” and who, after having received basic training in their nation of origin, can train in Spain as teachers of Spanish as a foreign language.

In this sense, there is already “progress” in India with the forthcoming signing of a memorandum of understanding between the Instituto Cervantes and the state of New Delhi for teacher training.

Spanish is the third most studied language in India after its inclusion as a curricular language and the third language whose knowledge provides better salaries.
