Cardiovascular diseases are the main cause of death in the European Union and Portugal. In our country they are responsible for about 30,000 deaths per year, almost a third of all deaths. Myocardial infarction alone kills, on average, more than 12 people a day. About 8 out of 10 deaths that occur early (before age 70) are preventable.
