Appointment is made. Prime Minister Élisabeth Borne has invited five unions to talks which will take place on May 16 and 17 in Matignon. These meetings will take place bilaterally, the representatives of each of these organizations (CFDT, CGT, FO, CFE-CGC and CFTC) being invited to discuss one after the other with the Prime Minister.
According Europe 1, Elisabeth Borne’s entourage clarified that the agenda for the discussions was “open”. Several topics could therefore be addressed, including pension reform.
This will be the first meeting between Elisabeth Borne and the unions since April 5, just a month ago. Eager to “renew the dialogue with the unions”, after the sequence of the pension reform, the executive had already indicated last week that it intended to invite the unions to a meeting but wished “to let May 1 pass”.
“Finding Concord”
In an interview at South Westpublished this Friday morning, Emmanuel Macron pleaded for a “responsible social dialogue”, now emphasizing a “new pact” for life at work, which will also have to be discussed with the unions.
This pact will cover wages, working conditions, the employment of seniors and career retraining. “The idea is to build an agenda by the summer and then they (the social partners, editor’s note) negotiate it until the end of the year”, recalled the head of state. “The spirit of responsibility is knowing how to manage our disagreements”, he further pointed out, adding that “we must find harmony for the ambition of the country”.
The day after a successful mobilization on May 1, the unions called for a fourteenth day of action on June 6, when the deputies will examine two days later a bill aimed at repealing the pension reform.
