Al-Fayez: There is no privatization of the industrial port, but its management is foreign

Watan Al-Youm: Chairman of the Board of Commissioners of the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority, Nayef Al-Fayez, confirmed that the industrial port in Aqaba is owned by the government, but the management is foreign, which confirms that the port has not been privatized.
Al-Fayez added, during his hosting of the 60 Minutes program, which is broadcast on Jordanian television and presented by his colleague Omar Kalab, that the industrial port is a success story of partnership with major container companies, noting that its revenues have become high, especially since it handled 850,000 containers last year, and can reach to one million and 300 thousand containers.
He noted the existence of independent ports and the absence of any interference in their work, pointing out that the industrial port is important and feeds Jordan economically (exports and imports). In the world, the loading and departure time for the truck does not exceed 30 minutes.
He explained, “We want there to be an expansion of the industrial port in terms of technologies, and the returns have greatly increased in recent years.”
He pointed out that the royal interest in Aqaba, during the past years, is beginning to see its results on the ground, but the royal vision is to be an attractive and continuous point of giving, not only in developing Aqaba, but also in providing Jordan economically and as a point of attraction for foreign investments.
And he indicated that Aqaba is a port, industrial, logistical, economic and commercial region, but the “sea” constitutes one-third of the Aqaba region, explaining that some elements are present in Aqaba and are not present in the rest of the governorates.
He pointed out that Aqaba has several ports; The southern port, which was completed a few years ago, has become the main port, in addition to the industrial port, phosphate port, gas port, potash port, container port, and passenger port.
