According to the press release that Notícias de Angola had access to, the director general of the World Health Organization (WHO) said that the maximum alert level had been lifted, accepting the recommendation of the emergency committee.

WHO declared for the first time that Covid-19 represented the highest level of alert for more than three years, on January 30, 2020.

The first case of Covid-19 in Africa appeared on February 14, 2020, in Egypt. Nigeria was the first country in sub-Saharan Africa to register cases of infection, on 28 February. Both countries are among those with the most deaths and positive cases.

In Angola, the first two positive cases of coronavirus infection were revealed in March 2020, at the time referring to two Angolans, residing in Luanda, who returned to the country from Portugal.
