Innoviz’s LiDAR system will replace manual leverage or at least help cranes and prevent accidents while saving costs

Invis, a solid-state Lider sensor supplier, and Japan’s largest construction company Obayashi today announced the development of an autonomous crane system that uses Innoviz’s LiDAR sensors. Obayashi’s automatic crane system is part of its recently announced autonomous solutions for digging equipment, building concrete dams and backhoes.

Obayashi began using Innoviz’s LiDAR on their sites in 2018, and is currently in the process of developing a full-scale system at construction sites across Japan. Obayashi’s identification software extracts the data generated by Innoviz’s LiDAR to measure the exact distance from objects and to identify people and equipment at construction sites. Obayashi’s system uses the data to send a series of step-by-step warnings to the crane operator, which improves safety and enables a more efficient and effective process. The use of Innoviz’s LiDAR together with Obayashi’s proprietary software has resulted in significant savings related to the crane’s manual operation.

Omar Kilaf, co-founder and CEO of Innoviz Technologies, said: “We were thrilled to see the result of Obayashi’s use of our LiDAR. This is an innovative and true evidence solution that our LiDAR can be used in a significant number of industries. We believe we will see more such partnerships materialize. In addition, we are grateful to our distributor and partner, Macnica, for connecting us with the innovative Obayashi team. ”

Innoviz is represented in Japan by Macnica, the country’s largest distribution company.
