The agricultural union JARC has this week asked the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries (MAPA) to modify the reductions of the IRPF modules to include crops such as cherries, vines or vegetable gardens, which have had to face to “serious difficulties” recently. The union specifically regrets that reductions have been rejected for the main cherry producers in the Baix Llobregat, as well as for the vineyard sector.

In this sense, they consider that the drop in yield in many municipalities of the Alt Penedès has not been taken into account, where the low rainfall and the hail at the end of August damaged vines in the centers of the region and some registered in the DO Alella.

Incidence of war

In the same vein, the Baix Llobregat vegetable garden has suffered, as highlighted by JARC, the increase in costs resulting from the war conflict in Ukraine and lower productivity due to the high temperatures, as well as a greater incidence of pests

For its part, the irrigation canals have not provided the necessary volume of water due to the drought, a fact that has meant that the optimal water needs for the development of the crops have not been available.

However, JARC has expressed its satisfaction for having achieved significant reductions for fodder producers, so it values ”positively” that the Ministry has listened to its demands on the structural reduction of 30% in all livestock sectors, except that of poultry producers.

Finally, in the case of dairy cattle and goat producers, despite having achieved a 30% reduction, the union believes that the reduction should have been between 50 and 60% due to the lack of food from spring in the regions of Central Catalonia.
