The project of the alternating lanes between the Netanya Interchange and Wingate is underway

by time news

The YD Barzani Group, which deals with infrastructure and construction work, won a tender to complete the northern section of the highway project on the coastal road, between the Netanya Interchange and the Wingate Institute. Seven groups participated in the tender, and YD Brazeni’s bid was for NIS 500 million.

The project, promoted by the Ministry of Transport through the state-owned Ayalon Lanes Company, includes the construction of two 14-kilometer-long lanes in each direction to be added to the four existing lanes on this road (three regular lanes and a public transport lane). Once the lanes are added, the two middle lanes will become “alternating lanes” that will change direction depending on the load. This will allow travel in six lanes in the morning in a southerly direction (Tel Aviv), and in the afternoon – in a northerly direction. In addition, a bicycle path will be paved along the route of the road. The works are scheduled to begin as early as this year and are expected to be completed by 2025.

The northern alternating lanes will connect to the Shefayim parking lot, which is expected to be the largest parking lot in Israel, and from there a fast lane will be paved to the south, similar to the one currently existing on Road 1 to the west of the Shafirim parking lot.

YD Barzani is a private family company owned by Dayan Bar and Yossi Barzani. The company is mainly engaged in housing construction projects, but has also carried out several infrastructure projects, including interchanges, level separations and main roads, mainly in the Jerusalem area.

The northern section is part of a larger project that costs NIS 4.6 billion. As part of the project, highways will be paved – toll roads that will also serve as public transportation and carpool routes and will be located north and south of Gush Dan. The combined length of the two new highways will be 75 km, and these will stretch from the Mevo Ayalon interchange on Road 20 (Ayalon) in the south to the Shefayim parking lot in the north (Road 2).
