New York City Comptroller: “I will push the meetings to teach Libya”

by time news

Upon being elected to the position of New York City Comptroller, Brad Lander stated that he would make every effort to ensure that he studied at the Haredi yeshivas.

The Jewish Comptroller, a New York City incumbent, Brad Lander, has stated that he will use all his strength and resources to force yeshivot to teach LIBA curricula. “Schools, including private schools, have a duty to provide a full education of LIBA studies, especially when the city helps those schools with transportation and textbooks,” Lander told the JTA Jewish News Agency.

“It is the responsibility of the entire city and of the visitor in particular to pay attention and criticize and make sure that these commitments are met,” he added. The issue of teaching Libya subjects in yeshivot has been hotly debated in recent years. On the one hand a group of people say that yeshivas are obligated to teach Libya subjects, while on the other many say that the law violates the religious freedoms of yeshivas to determine which professions should be taught to their students.

As an auditor, Lander will have the authority to review the meetings and determine whether they meet state requirements for Libya professions, although he noted that he has no power to force them to change their curricula.

An ultra-Orthodox city council member, Kalman Jaeger, responded to the comptroller’s remarks on his Twitter account, saying, “Not a word from the comptroller elected to vow about the state of New York public schools, where children struggle for education and fear for their lives on a daily basis.
