Lithuania expressed its readiness to supply Ukraine with lethal weapons in order to strengthen its defenses in case of aggression from Russia. “Diplomacy will be successful when the victim has all the means to protect and ensure his sovereignty. It is necessary to support Ukraine by all means, Lithuania is ready to do this, including the transfer of lethal weapons to Ukraine,” German counterpart Christine Lambrecht in the Lithuanian city of Rukla on Sunday evening, December 19.

Anushaushkas did not specify what kind of weapons Lithuania would transfer to Ukraine. “Now I will not answer for sure, this is a matter of a multilateral agreement, since several countries are involved, not only the giving and receiving countries, but also the manufacturer and the supplier,” he explained.

Concerns about the threat of war

The government in Kiev has long been calling on Western countries, including Germany, to supply it with lethal weapons. Berlin expresses strong support for the sovereignty of Ukraine and points out the inadmissibility of violating its borders, but is not ready to supply weapons to Kiev.

Recently, fears have grown that Russia is preparing a large-scale war against Ukraine. The West and Kiev accused Russia of transferring about one hundred thousand troops to the Ukrainian border. Moscow denies military plans and, for its part, accuses the West of arming Ukraine and conducting maneuvers near Russian borders.
