Russia has not received any specific proposals from Ukraine for a meeting between the country’s President Vladimir Zelensky and Russian leader Vladimir Putin. This was announced on December 20 by the Kremlin press secretary Dmitry Peskov.

“Well, in fact, there is no substantive preparation for the meeting of the two presidents, we do not receive any specific proposals from our Ukrainian colleagues. Therefore, this factor can hardly play any role here, ”he said, answering the question of how the law signed by Zelensky, simplifying the acquisition of citizenship of the country for certain categories of Russians, contributes to the preparation of a meeting between the presidents of the Russian Federation and Ukraine.

Prior to that, on December 18, Zelensky signed a law simplifying the acquisition of citizenship of the country for those who fought in the Donbass and for a number of categories of citizens of the Russian Federation.

In particular, a simplified procedure for acquiring citizenship is provided for persons “who have served or are serving in the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, have outstanding services to Ukraine or are of public interest, are citizens of the aggressor or occupying state and have been persecuted for political beliefs.”
