The government unveiled Wednesday, May 03, the orientations of the State budgets for the period 2024-2026. Transmitted to the National Assembly for amendment, the multiannual budgetary and economic programming document (DPBEP) supervises public investments in Benin.

The multi-year budget and economic programming document indicates the economic line to be followed in the coming years in order to promote optimal use of resources according to the priorities of the Government. “The 2024-2026 version of the document presents, at the macroeconomic level, the trajectory of a resilient economy recovering from the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic to return to sustained growth” according the Council of Ministers.

To achieve this, the government is committed to working to improve the business environment. The strategy to be implemented aims to “to create a favorable framework for the emergence of a dynamic and competitive private sector, of a selective industrial sector”.

In the areas of transport, energy and sanitation, the State wants to pursue the major open projects intended to make up for the infrastructure deficit. The DPBEP also provides for the promotion “[des] high potential sectors including agriculture, tourism, digital economy and knowledge economy”.

For the Executive, all of these actions will have strong impacts on the populations with, as a result, the reduction of the poverty rate in Benin. “The next triennium will be strongly marked in budgetary terms by the rise of social safety net programs, the objective of which is to significantly reduce the impact of the global economic crisis and to be an adapted and innovative means to tackle poverty in a sustainable way”, informs the report of the Council of Ministers.

The Beninese State also assures that all of its interventions will be “so as to preserve debt viability and sustainability” of its finances.
