The Israeli government faces an internal crisis due to the growing demands of the far-right Minister of National Security, Itamar Ben Gvir, whose party returned to boycott parliamentary sessions this Monday as a protest against his limited influence in the Executive. Differences between Ben Gvir and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu have intensified over the past week over the upsurge in violence with Palestinian militias in the Gaza Strip.

Last Wednesday, after the ceasefire that ended a short escalation that included the launch of more than a hundred rockets from Gaza, Ben Gvir announced that his party, Jewish Power, would boycott the sessions in the Chamber due to the “weak response military” of Israel, which carried out heavy retaliatory bombing raids on the enclave.

The minister’s complaints also extended to his limited participation in government discussions on foreign security. “If this reality is not acceptable to Minister Ben Gvir, he has no reason to stay in government,” Netanyahu’s Likud party responded.
