DECRYPTION – The government plans to concentrate efforts on the richest while easing the pressure on the middle classes.
Bercy had been brooding on it for months. Constantly pushed back by the long sequence of retirements, the “great plan to fight against all fraud” was unveiled on Tuesday by the Minister of Public Accounts, Gabriel Attal. The first part concerns tax evasion, a second part will follow on social fraud. For this first chapter, the government intends to “pay what they owe the ultra-rich and the multinationals”.
Supported by the President of the Republic, the plan aims to increase resources, particularly human resources. By the end of the five-year term, 1,500 more staff will be devoted to the fight against tax evasion, an increase of 15%, according to Bercy. These new arms will essentially be used to increase tax controls on the wealthiest households and on large companies.
