The Jubilee of the year 2025 in Rome is a historic event that the Church places at the service of hope, and for which millions of pilgrims will arrive in the eternal city.
The previous year, 2024, will be dedicated to prayer at the request of Pope Francis. The Church sets out towards the Jubilee with the intention of promoting the centrality of personal and community prayer.
This information was provided during a press conference held this Tuesday, May 9, at the Holy See Press Office, where the initiatives of the preparation phase and the significant steps towards the Jubilee Year were presented, whose motto is “Pilgrims of Hope”
The pro-prefect and the undersecretary of the Holy See’s Department for Evangelization presented the calendar of major jubilee events, the processes activated and the objectives already achieved in the preparatory phase, with the participation of the four organizing commissions.
A Jubilee to give hope to those who suffer
The pro-prefect of the Department for Evangelization, Msgr. Rino Fisichella, affirmed that “the Jubilee of 2025 speaks of hope, of the joy of meeting the risen Lord Jesus” also in those places where people “suffer”: hospitals, prisons, soup kitchens, among others.
In statements to ACI Prensa after the press conference, Bishop Rino Fisichella explained that “for us believers, waiting is the ability to look to the future with the certainty that the Lord is close to us. The Jubilee is an occasion for all of us to be pilgrims of hope”.
After the press conference, Bishop Fisichella indicated that the 2025 event “is a Jubilee that we want to see for peace in the world and the suffering of those who are in a difficult condition.”
The Holy Year calendar
For the opening and closing dates, you must wait for the Bull of Convocation of the Jubilee, which will be published, according to tradition, on the Feast of the Ascension, on May 9, 2024.
The ordinary Jubilee will begin with the opening of the Holy Door of Saint Peter’s Basilica in December 2024.
El Greco in Rome for the Jubilee 2025
Archbishop Fisichella also presented the work of the Cultural Commission created to contribute to the development of cultural activities for pilgrims that combine: beauty, faith and charity.
The Commission has planned an exhibition of works by the Spanish Renaissance artist El Grecowhich will take place in September to officially kick off cultural initiatives and help visitors reflect on the theme of “hope in Christ.”
“In the exhibition you will be able to admire a theological triptych, made up of three masterpieces by El Greco, such as The Baptism, Christ Embracing the Cross and El Salvador Blessing”, Msgr. Fisichella noted.
“We wish, as much as possible, that these manifestations be free of charge, in such a way as to favor the participation of citizens in the contemplation of beauty”, affirmed the Italian Archbishop.

Also, at today’s press conference, the new Jubilee 2025 website, iubilaeum2025.va, was presented, which will be active from May 10, together with the “pilgrim” app, available for Android and IOS.
The Jubilee social media channels will also be active starting next fall. Through the web and the app you can access a platform that allows you to register and obtain the “Pilgrim’s Credential”.
The inscriptions
“It is a window to the Jubilee that is agile and easily usable by everyone, adolescents, young people and adults. On the Home Page there is a presentation video”, reported Bishop Graham Bell, undersecretary of the Department for Evangelization, Section for Fundamental Questions of Evangelization in the World.
“Starting in September, by clicking on the ‘Participate’ button, it will be possible to register for the events and for the pilgrimage to the Holy Door. Until the Home registration platform is active, the presentation video will be found, ”she added.
The jubilee hymn
The winner of the international competition for the Jubilee 2025 hymn, whose name was announced during the press conference, has also already been selected. “It is about Master Francesco Meneghello, from Mantova”, confirmed Msgr. Fisichella. “270 people from 38 different countries participated,” he said.
“The text, which had to be set to music, was written by Professor Pierangelo Sequeri, a theologian and musicologist who has composed world-renowned texts.”
On the occasion of this conference, the Pontifical Sistine Chapel has recorded a first edition of the hymn that was presented in advance to the press in Rome.
Information point of the Jubilee in Rome
On Thursday, June 1, the Pilgrim Center – Jubilee Information Point will also be inaugurated in Via della Conciliazione 7, where pilgrims and tourists will be able to request information on how to participate, become volunteers or organize their own pilgrimage in 2025.
