A new lease of life is on the horizon for the Reims sporting event of the year. Since 2016, ASO, major organizer of the Tour de France, has been in charge of the running event in Reims as in many other cities such as Lyon or Paris. Marathon, half-marathon, 10 km and race for children, all audiences could put on sneakers during this fall event. No way to change a winning formula. The new organizer Playground keeps the essentials but trades the marathon, in decline in attendance, for an ultra-trail called the “Sacré trail”.

No plastic bottles!

The event also took the opportunity to change its name: “Reims Champagne Run thus allows us to rethink the event which will be a real weekend of running celebrations”, insists Arnaud Robinet, the mayor of Reims. Next October 14 and 15, thousands of runners will set off again in the city of coronations. Great novelty: the advent of an 84 km trail that will take place at night, on the night of Saturday to Sunday. “The idea is to have almost 24 hours of events over these two days with these four events”, explains Jérémy Larson, co-founder and director of general public events at Playground. The children’s race will take place at the Parc de Champagne on Saturday 14 October. The 10 km of Rémus and the half of the Kings will be part of the program for Sunday 15 October.

Another big change, the event will take an ecological turn. Playground wants to commit to a more eco-responsible event. “We are trying to overhaul the organization of all our events. Water supply is an example. It is no longer conceivable today to offer single-use plastic bottles. We prefer the Ecocups which are reused several times”, underlines Jérémy Larson. The organizing company also puts an end to the jerseys systematically attributed to the runners. Farewell also to the metal medals now made of wood from sustainably managed forests.

To register, you will have to wait until next Monday (May 15). As for the different course layouts, they will be unveiled next July on the new event site: reimschampagnerun.fr
