After the meeting this Tuesday at the Supreme Court of Justice, between President Gustavo Petro and the presidents of the High Courts, the Minister of Justice, Néstor Osuna, described the meeting as “kind, very cordial, very frank”, in addition to making it clear that there was no problem with the judicial branch.

“It became clear that The Government has not had and does not have any friction with the judiciary in respect of the independence of the Judicial Branch and that it is attentive to listen to all the judges of the Republic and the magistrates”, he expressed.

When asked about a possible meeting between Gustavo Petro and Francisco Barbosa, the minister said that no specific dates were discussed, but “it was clear that the President of the Republic there is absolute availability to talk and listen for an increasingly strong Social State of Law”.

It should be noted that this is the first reaction of the Government after the meeting, since President Petro refrained from attending the press after the meeting with the High Courts and his previous dispute with the Attorney General, Francisco Barbosa.

Contrary to the president, the presidents of the Supreme Court, Ferdinand Castle Chain; Council of State, Jaime Enrique Rodriguez Navas; Constitutional Court, Diana Fajardo Rivera, and Superior Council of the Judiciary, Aurelio Enrique Rodriguez Guzman, They reaffirmed the principle of separation of powers as an essential assumption of the Rule of Law.

“We agree on the need to maintain the firme commitment to channel differences through institutional mechanisms, within the unrestricted respect for judicial autonomy and independence”, they assured.
