The Francisco de Vitoria Judicial Association (AJFV), Independent Judicial Forum (FJI), la Association of Prosecutors (AF) y la Professional and Independent Association of Prosecutors (APIF) open to postponing the indefinite strike called for the next day 16 as requested by the Ministry of Justice.

At this time, all that remains is for the majority Professional Association of the Magistracy (APM) decide whether to join their comrades or, on the contrary, decide to go on strike scheduled for five days from now. Legal sources explain that the APM board of directors will meet this afternoon to make a decision on the matter.

In the meeting held yesterday afternoon by the remuneration table, the Government conveyed to the representatives of the judges and prosecutors groups that it needed more time to be able to present its final financial proposal in writing.

Likewise, the ministries of Justice and Finance informed the association leaders that in order to continue negotiating the improvement of their working conditions it would be necessary for judges and prosecutors not to be on strike.

This request found an almost immediate response from groups such as the AF, APIF and FJI, which opened up to delaying the possible start of the strike, while other associations such as the AJFV and the APM maintained that they should consult the proposal with their respective management teams.

For its part, the National Committee of the AJFV met this Thursday and subsequently issued a statement stating that “the negotiations at the Remuneration Table have not borne fruit, but three meetings of a negotiating body have already been held.” which has remained inert for more than a decade. There is also a proposal on the table to systematize the table’s technical work calendar for the next negotiation cycle” so this group is open to postponing the indefinite strike until the next day May 22nd.

In the third meeting of the remuneration table, the Government maintained yesterday its offer of 46.7 million euros for a linear increase in the salary of judges and prosecutors.
