LAB will call off the six days of strike in Metal

Some salary increases that, according to ELA, guarantee “the best salaries” in Metal in the Basque Autonomous Community and Navarra, and that even widens the differences, since it indicates that “the increases are made taking into account the CPI of the previous year and It will not carry out an update within three years as in the rest of the provincial agreements ». Thus, he highlights that with this agreement the difference between a first-class official in Eibar or in Ermua will be 6,000 euros, and among graduates and/or engineers it is even greater, since in Gipuzkoa they will charge 44,000 euros, 15,000 more than in Araba or Navarra, and 8,000 more than in Bizkaia.

It also stands out that the 5% increase for this year in tables is higher than the 3% set by Araba, 4% for Bizkaia and 4.5% for Navarra. And with regard to real wages -above tables- he points out that the Gipuzkoa agreement guarantees an 85% increase, when in Araba it is 0% and 75% in Bizkaia, but in the latter case only for wages of the category and not for the total salary.

The agreement also includes that sick leave due to professional illness or accident at work will be supplemented by 100% of the salary, although it leaves out the ‘in itinere’, an issue that the unions have not achieved despite claiming it and that they do not fully understand the employer’s reasons for leaving it out of the complement. However, ELA remembers that it is about 4% of all work accidents.

working day reduction

Another novelty that it incorporates is a reduction in the symbolic workday of two hours, which will take effect in 2024, a year before what Adegi proposed in its previous proposal and that UGT put as a condition for signing this agreement. In this way, the effective working day remains at 1,695 hours. A reduction that places the Gipuzkoa Metal agreement as the one with the shortest working hours in the entire State along with that of Navarra.

It also includes the right to subrogation for all subcontracted personnel, an issue that ELA values very positively as it represents “a historic achievement that will provide stability to the most precarious people in the sector.”

With regard to contracting, it includes that those carried out due to production circumstances may be extended for a maximum of one year. In terms of licenses, it includes that single-parent families will enjoy 8 more hours for medical consultations for their children. It also contemplates a protocol against harassment, the promotion of the Basque language, issues related to LGTBIQ+ rights and shields against the reforms.

LAB calls off the strike

The signatory unions have more than 50% representation. ELA has 47.75% and UGT with 4.34%. For its part, LAB, which is the second most important union, has 35.75% and CC OO, 12.16%. The Abertzale central had called after the previous meeting of the table for a six-day strike in the sector, which it will leave without effect after the agreement reached yesterday, since it considers that “it makes no sense to go ahead.” The central will offer a press conference today in which it will fully assess the agreement, although it was in favor of putting pressure on the employers to achieve better content. CC OO, which was also threatening demonstrations, proposed to continue negotiating and, faced with Adegi’s refusal, has called regional assemblies.
