The final stage of several projects related to road construction has started in Narva. By the end of May, it is planned to complete the repair of Tulevik and Malmi streets.

“At the end of last year, there were some difficulties at Tulevika due to a gas pipeline passing there, but everything was successfully resolved, and the work is proceeding according to the schedule,” Toomas Mägi, a senior road specialist from the Utilities and Construction Division of the City Department, explained to our publication. economy.

As our publication also learned, since last summer, builders and Narva officials had to work hard, coordinating the schedule for the repair of these streets with the regime for passing vehicles through the Narva border customs checkpoint. Since the electronic queuing system tracks trucks from the Sillamäe sump to the border crossing, it is essential to take into account all the factors that can disrupt the order.

“But we also successfully managed these approvals, the work is nearing completion,” Mägi said. “So the Narva Run will take place on renovated streets.” As you know, the largest sporting event in Ida-Virumaa this year will be held under the new name “Narva Linna Jooks” and will be held in our city from June 9 to 10, 2023. “It is also planned to complete the renovation of Linda Street in May,” Mägi added.

Transit roads – traffic is difficult
Starting from May 2, when work started on the access road to the viaduct on Rahu Street, the construction of transit roads under the Narva TEN-T project was resumed in our city. In connection with the work on the dismantling of the concrete road and the construction of the drainage pipeline, the viaduct was completely closed until the evening of May 8. Erki Kylli, a senior specialist in the Project Service of the Department for Development and Economics of Narva, told NG that on the evening of May 9, the viaduct had already been opened after the laying of the temporary pavement. “But in a week, asphalting will begin there – first on one side of the road, with access to the other, then vice versa,” he specified.

According to Andres Winkler, project manager at YIT Eesti, on May 9, asphalt milling work also began on the section between Paul Keres Street, the training center of the Academy of Internal Defense and the ring.

At the same time, the section of Paul Keres Street between the building of the training center of the Academy of Internal Defense and Suur-Aguli Street and on the ring in the direction of traffic from the Tallinn Highway was closed, including the area in front of the building at ul. Cosmonaudi, 4, which was not put in order last year.

During the construction works, Suur-Aguli street, Fortaco plant and Vaba Lava can be reached along Energia street. “After the above sections are completed and opened, the section of the road between Suur-Aguli Street and the ring will be closed,” Winkler said. “During the construction work, a new street with 2+1 lanes and sidewalks will be built, new street lighting will be installed, sewerage will be installed, and intersections with traffic lights will be built.”

According to a representative of YIT Eesti, under suitable weather conditions, from May 15, the company will start asphalting work on Rahu and Paul Keres streets, where the last top layer of asphalt was not laid last year. “On Rahu Street and Keres Street, in the section from the viaduct to the intersection with Kreenholmi Street, we will continue laying stone pavement and landscaping, followed by asphalting and marking the pavement, and we will also begin installing traffic lights,” Winkler said. During the works, one of the three traffic lanes will be closed, and a speed limit of 30 km/h will be applied on the construction sites.

Signs with a yellow background are priority
Winkler recalls that most roads already have permanent road signs, but asks drivers to pay special attention to temporary road signs with a yellow background, because in case of conflicting signs, they must be guided by them. “We rely on the understanding and patience of the citizens,” hopes the representative of YIT Eesti.
