The movement of rail cargo in Mexico reported an increase of 7.04%, during the first quarter of 2023, equivalent to 33.41 million tons compared to the same period of the previous year.

Data from the Mexican Rail System (SFM) indicate that car traffic from January to March increased by 4.75%, reaching 0.52 thousand loaded units.

However, exports decreased by 4.64%, which is equivalent to 5.88 million tons, while imports increased by 10.90%, reaching 18.31 million tons.

In detail, the accumulated net tons in international traffic reached 24.18 million, with a growth of 6.68%. For its part, national traffic increased 8.02%, reaching 9.23 million tons.

Major rail companies Ferromex, Ferrosur and Kansas City Southern de México (KCSM) also reported cargo growth rates of 5.02%, 9.46% and 11.48%, respectively.

The Rail Transport Regulatory Agency (ARTF) has estimated a significant growth in the load of the concessionary companies, as indicated in its report.
