Zondoma: 12 injured in the collapse of a Franco-Arab school in Bassi
Gourcy, May 10 (AIB)- Ten students and two teachers were injured on May 4, 2023, following a strong wind that caused the collapse of the Franco-Arab school Daroul Heckma in the village of Songdin, in the commune of Bassi.

This is the sad observation that can be made on the site of the Franco-Arab school of Songdin, a village located about 7 kilometers south of Bassi, the capital of the commune.
A week after the damage caused to his school by a violent wind, we met a distraught founder on the scene and still in shock.
According to him, it was on Thursday May 4, 2023 around 4:30 p.m. that the wind of rare violence surprised the students and teachers in the classrooms.
“It was the cries of the children that alerted us and we ran to help them get out of the rubble”; he said, before adding that at least 12 injured mostly on the head and lower limbs were counted and taken to the Health and Social Promotion Center (CSPS) in the village of Taslima for appropriate care.
Fortunately, no loss of human life was recorded despite the extent of the damage.
To date, only three people are still continuing treatment with the village stitcher, particularly for cases of sprains.
“It is a miracle that children come out of this situation with only a few wounds and it deserves to give thanks to God for having preserved the lives of these children”, added the founder El Hadj Lassané Ouédraogo, assisted on this occasion by a few members of his entourage.
Thinking of the next school year, he appealed to all goodwill to help them in the reconstruction of the school which currently has a hundred students divided into four divisions and two classrooms.
But before, his major concern is to find a place to finish the current school year.
The Daroul Heckma Franco-Arab school comes under the Basic Education District (CEB) of Bassi, 25 kilometers from Gourcy, capital of Zondoma province.
Note that this wind accompanied by a light rain did not spare the public primary school located a stone’s throw away.
The roofs of two teachers’ quarters were damaged.
