Kinshasa, May 12th 2023 (CPA) – The revival of tourism in the Democratic Republic of Congo, as presented in Durban in the South African Republic by the minister in charge, is a vector of development for the country, the ministry said in a statement received by the CPA on Thursday.

« Despite the difficulties that have placed Congolese tourism in a pitiful state, Minister Didier Mazenga has committed himself to courageously place the revival of this sector, as a vector of development of the DRC, at the centre of his action that he shared with the dialogue of tourism in the RSA, » reported this document recounting the outcome of the Durban meeting.

This determination of Minister Mazenga to re-launch Congolese tourism, the same source stressed, is in line with the vision of the Head of State Félix Antoine Tshisekedi who swears by the re-launch of tourism activities in the DRC.

During his stay in South Africa, Didier Mazenga visited the facilities of the company « DORMAC », located along the Indian Ocean.

This company is specialized in the construction of liners, fishing boats, sale of steel and other specialized vessels. During a meeting with the head of the company, Mr Chris Sparg, he expressed the needs of the Congolese government to buy or acquire a modern boat that could facilitate traffic on the Congo River, the Gare Centrale-Maluku axis, via the N’sele Tourist Site (STN).

Once acquired, this boat will be able to facilitate the shuttles of both foreign and Congolese tourists who want to visit the DRC.

After this stage, the Minister of Tourism had a great bilateral meeting with the South African Minister of Tourism, Mrs Patricia Lille MP, in the presence of the Ambassador of the DRC in South Africa, Mr Mulaja Binene.

He also intervened at the big conference of the Ministers of Tourism of the African countries members and partners of the BRICS, a group of 5 high growth countries (Brazil-Russia-India-South Africa) which meet annually. On this occasion, he invited his counterparts to promote air transport connectivity in Africa for the integral development of African tourism.

He then visited the new building that now houses the DRC embassy in Pretoria, South Africa, before meeting with South African investors in the tourism sector, with a view to rehabilitating the N’Sele tourist site, the Kinshasa Animal Park (Zoological Garden), the Kinshasa Botanical Garden and many others in a state of disrepair.
