The public prosecutor of Saint-Brieuc announced Friday, May 12 the opening of an investigation after the filing of a complaint by the mayor of Plougrescant (Côtes-d’Armor), who found that the brakes of his vehicle had been cut. At this stage of the investigation, “the results of the first investigations showed that four brake hoses had been deliberately severed”reports in a press release the public prosecutor Nicolas Heitz.
The elected official filed a complaint against X on Tuesday, denouncing “acts committed against him and which could be qualified as attempted homicide and repeated death threats”says the prosecutor. “In support of his complaint”the elected official explained that, “the day before, when she was starting her vehicle, she had noticed a braking fault and the absence of resistance at the level of the brake pedal”. The mechanic then noticed that “the hoses had been cut with pliers”. The mayor, Anne-Françoise Piedallu, “stated, moreover, that he had been the victim of a similar event previously, one of the front wheels of his vehicle having been loosened”reports the magistrate.
“Threatening words”
The elected official also mentioned “tensions with some of its constituents” as well as “threatening remarks that would have been made against him indirectly, in front of employees”according to the prosecution. “Investigations are underway to identify the author or authors of these facts”, says the magistrate. Plougrescant is a coastal town of around 1,200 inhabitants, not far from Lannion.
This sabotage comes as many elected officials, including the President of the Republic, Emmanuel Macron, have expressed their indignation in recent days after the resignation of the mayor of Saint-Brevin-les-Pins (Loire-Atlantique), Yannick Morez, under the pressure from the extreme right. Following this resignation, the government announced on Friday the launch of a center “analysis and fight against violence against elected officials” to improve their protection.
